31. Toroletuhoh
A good dive can be found on the north face of Toroletuhoh. The best time to dive is on the rising tide when the area is affected by a counter current that flows to the south. The entry point is on the northeastern side the point then drift reef left along the boulders to the western most tip of the point. There is a nice wall as you approach your point and plenty of sharks and big fish action, giant trevally and schools of snappers. There is also an exellent variety of coral reef fish. The coral growth itself is very similar to the site in South Komodo ie. coral encrusted rocks. The water here is usually clear but can be quite cool. Also the site maybe affected by a stronge surge when there is a big swell running.
32. Nisaleme Island
Nisaleme is very exposed a small rocky island that can be difficult to dive. The entry point is usually at the northern or the southern tip of the island depending of current direction. The rock itself drop very steeply down into deep water. It is an excellent site for pelagic fish such as rainbow runners, giant trevally, dogtooth tuna, and sharks. Caution should be taken when attempting this dive as there can be strong down current during rapid tide flow.
33. Batu Saloka
Although not marked on the chart there is some rocky islands and reef off the point at Tanjung Saloka. The western most island is an excellent dive however very exposed to the current and swell. There is also a rocky reef just below the surface fifty meters south of this island. Best time to dive is during slack water when the rock can be circumnavigated. The terrain is very dramatic and the fish life is prolific, napoleon wrasse, big groupers, schooling snappers, turtles, big sharks, giant trevallies and much more.
34. Banana Split
The top of the reef runs north to south in about 2 meters of the water and is shaped like a banana. The rock drops down on the western side to boulders in approximately 30 m this is where the bigger fish hang out. On the eastern side the boulders start in approximately 10 meters of water and slope down. At the southern end of the rock there is a pinnacle detach from the main reef. A lots of different species of sweetlips live on this site and sometimes school together. Groupers, sharks and pelagic fishes can also be found. There is a lot of activity among the small reef fish around the top of the reef Thousands of anthias and wrasses can be seen spawning quite often.
35. Lohwenci
Just north of ranger station there is a small white sandy beach with a group of low, black rocks sitting on the reef. Here a plesant, relatively current free dive can be found. The entry point is just of the small white beach then swim reef left towards the ranger station. There is a good selection of hard and soft corals sloping down to a sandy bottom. Plenty of fish life and other marine creatures.
36. Tukohserikaya
On the eastern side of Tukohserikaya there is a rocky reef that break the surface. Although this site is very exposed to the current, it is still possible to dive on the lee side of the reef even when the current is still running quite strong. The best time to dive this area would be during slack-water. The Coral is in very good condition and fish life is also very good. Lots of a good sized whitetip reef sharks patrol the area surrounded in clouds of anthias. This dive is one of the better small islands in west Komodo.
37. Tukohlehokgebah
There is good diving on the northern and southern points of the island. The diving environment is very similar to Tukohserikaya. On the southern side of the island there are some big boulders that make an interesting terrain. Coral growth on the northern side is also very good but stunted due the force of the current that hits the island. Lots of small fish and sharks are found on both locations.
38. Letuhoh Reef
Extending south from Tanjung Letuhoh there is a reef consisting of big boulders and pinnacles that offer some of the best big fish diving in Komodo. The best time to do this dive is on the falling tide when the rocks are affected by a counter current that flows to the north. The best place to enter is on the southern most rock that breaks the surface. Then hang out on the front face and watch the show. Its very good deep at around 30 meters. Big potato cod, grey reef sharks, eagle rays turtles, schools of rainbow runners, dogtooth tuna, giant trevally and snapper. Then swim reef right around the rock where you will encounter some big pinnacles encrusting with corals. This site is affected by surge and can look quite frightening from the surface especially when there is a big swell running however once in the water all is forgotten.
39. Torpedo Point
Located south of Canibal Rock this site is an excellent place to find unusual critters. At a depth of 15 meteres one can find a patchy rocky reef on sand that boasts cretters such as Torpedo Rays, Bobbit worms, Flying Gumards,Frogfish, and Ghostpipefish. Most of the rocks are surrounded by sand wich makes it a great low inpact dive for photographers.
40. Sabolan Kecil
This is another good site within easy reach of Labuanbajo. On the west side of the island there is a small white sandy beach. At the northern most point of the beach where the sand meets the rocks is the best point to enter. The reef slopes down to sand and there is a patch reef isolated from the islands fringing reef . The Water clarity is usually good and so is the dive. Once you have seen the patch reef you can return to the fringing reef slope to finish your dive |
