What to pack

Bring rain jacket with hood, light cotton clothes that absorb perspiration, sun block, insect repellent and medicine for headache, fever and stomach-ache are still better to buy at home.
Time zone
Bali is in Central Indonesia Time, GMT +8, the same time zone as Shanghai, Hongkong, Manila, Singapore, and Perth.
Electricity
Bali's electrical grid is 220 volts. The plugs are European style, with two round-section pins.
Changing Money
Money changers (which are in all of the tourist areas) almost always beat the bank's formal exchange rate, and hotel dest and airport are always much worse. When changing money, shop around. The changers post signboards out front with that day's rates, and they can very considerably.
Moneychangers often use a sliding scale for bill of different denominations, with the best rate awarded to crisp, new style U.S $100 bill. Old style $100s come next, then $50, $20 and smaller notes. Bring the newest and largest denomation notes you can get.
Language
English and Japanese are widely spoken in the south of the island.
Health
A trip to Bali does not represent a major risk to your health. Accidental cuts and scrapes, and stomach upset from unfamiliar food are the most likely problem. Malaria and dengue fever are not a major problem here ( unlike parts of Eastern Indonesia) but you do face a small risk, particularly in rural parts of the Northwest.
